About Chad Collins
A lifelong resident of Hamilton East - Stoney Creek, Chad Collins resides in the Davis Creek neighbourhood with his wife Mary and their two children, Chase and Reese. He attended Glendale Secondary School, the University of Western Ontario, and McMaster University. Chad was first elected to Hamilton City Council in 1995, at the age of 24, making him one of the youngest elected representatives in the City's history.
He is passionate about engaging local residents and community stakeholders; focusing his efforts on upgrading local infrastructure, investing in our aging social housing stock and giving priority to the development of the City’s waterfront, downtown and local BIA’s.
As the former President of City Housing Hamilton, Chad worked with all levels of government to invest in the much needed repair of over 6,000 publicly owned affordable housing units, working alongside stakeholders to secure a record $145 million CMHC investment. With the support of his council colleagues, Chad secured municipal resources for additional women’s shelter services to alleviate the pressures experienced by local shelter providers. His other housing initiatives include the creation of a local Tenant Defence Fund to assist tenants with rising rents as well as a local Hamilton housing policies related to ‘modular homes’, as part of the City’s application for Rapid Housing funds.
From the creation and development of new community parks and trails to the opening of a new food bank, Chad knows community consultation is an integral part of improving quality of life for everyone in Hamilton East - Stoney Creek!
